Big12 Championship

Iowa State Basketball

3.08.22 -

The Iowa State Daily’s basketball editors, reporters, and primary sports photographers are getting the opportunity to cover the Big 12 Men’s and Women’s Basketball Championship! Both I and my friend/fellow photographer, Collin Maguire, will be covering the tournament.

This might be one of the best years for both Iowa State Basketball teams in quite some time. Who knows; perhaps another Big 12 Championship? This could be a historic couple of games for the program.

Time to travel to Kansas City for a few days!

That was rough.

Our men’s team was eliminated in the first round against Texas Tech University. It was a devastating loss of 41-72. ISU just wasn’t fit for battle against Texas Tech’s extremely dominant offense. Not gonna lie, it was also very frustrating to photograph the game. The T-Mobile Centers’ lights were green-leaning, which really messes with skin tones. Who knows? Maybe our men’s team will do well in the NCAA tournament.

Our women’s team had much more success though. They won against West Virginia University with a score of 66-60. The next day of the championship we played The University of Texas. It was a back and forth, physical, and emotional game. But once overtime began, you could see the cracks within our team. ISU lost with a score of 73-83.

I had a lot of fun on this trip. I spent lots of time with friends, had amazing food, and had many new experiences that I will forever be grateful for. Shoutout to the Iowa State Daily. Scroll to the very bottom for some non-basketball-related pictures from my travels.
