About Me

My name is Jacob Rice, I’m 21 years old and I have worked as a professional photographer for about 4 years. Pictured next to me is my best friend & girlfriend, Katie.

I proudly come from a Filipino-Samoan family. My mom’s side of the family is from Hawaii and I love when I get the opportunity to visit my grandparents on Oahu.

I am a graduate of Waukee High School, and I am currently pursuing a BFA in Journalism and Mass Communications at Iowa State University.

In tandem with my school work, I work as the Visual Editor for the Iowa State Daily and a Photo Intern with Iowa State Athletics. I recently finished up a season-long internship with the Iowa Cubs baseball team.

Outside of my work, I enjoy playing the ukulele, learning American Sign Language, making spicy ramen, taking film photos, and hanging out with my dog Kona.

I have a passion for many styles of photography, but as of now, I LOVE sports and portrait photography. When I get the opportunity to combine the two, even better!

In my time as a photographer, I have gained experience from many perspectives. Working as a photojournalist, I have learned how to tell a story objectively, without having to rely on heavy editing and photo manipulation.

As an athletics photographer, I have learned how to use the most with the access you are given, gathering unique angles that no one else would be able to get.

I genuinely love putting my subjects in the spotlight. Showing not only the best version of themselves but accurately representing their uniqueness. The moment my subjects see the images I create is why I do what I do.

We are all unique, and we all deserve to put our best foot forward through a really frickin’ cool photo.
